Laboratory of Animal Behavior and Environmental Science Meiji University

Welcome to the website of the Laboratory of Animal Behavior and Environmental Science in the School of Agriculture at Meiji University. It is one of the few labs in the School's Department of Agriculture which breeds mammals.

Animal breeding is the foundation of stock production. So, if we can gain a deeper understanding of animal behavior it should be possible to use more efficient and ethical methods to increase animal productivity. Thus, it is necessary to understand natural animal behavior patterns, e.g. emotional behavior such as anxiety, as well as social behavior, feeding behavior, sexual behavior, and learning behavior.

By assessing these behavior patterns and regulatory mechanisms, we can gradually clarify the influence of the environment on our body. Through this research students can develop knowledge and skills that will contribute to the future of our world for the next 50 or 100 years.
