Summary
The tanks are composed of various industry's capability, such as engines, guns, metal and so
on.
He explores the under-researched experiences of the British tank industry in the context of the
pressures of war, and the various demands placed on British industry before and during the WW2.
He shows how the British tank industry was transformed, both with respect to productivity and
to the quality of its product. He explores the changing relationships between government and
industry before and during war; how the army's requirements were reconciled with industry's capabilities;
how the workforce was expanded and organaized; how production problems were overcome; and effects
of Lend-Lease on British output. Comparisons with Germany, the United States, Canada, and Austaralia
put the British industry's experience in international perspective.
