Fourth Generation Impossible Objects (2015-)
"Imvisible Objects" That Partly Disappear in a Mirror
I discovered a new class of objects, in which part of objects appear or disappear in a mirror.
They can be constructed using the same method as
ambiguous objects
in a slightly different manner.
In this page, we present various behaviors of imvisible objects using examples from hexagonal prisms. The following images are photos of actual scenes, in which an object is placed in front of a vertical mirror; no computer graphic modification was addes. You could enjog
drastic difference between the direct view of an object and its image in a mirror.
Imbisible Object VH
The object appears to be a hexagonal prism standing in such a way that the axis of the prism is horizontal. There is a rooster at the bottom plate. In the mirror image, however, the lower
half of the prism together with the rooster disappears just as if the lower part is buried in the dest. Where is it?
Here is an
unfolded surface diagram
of this object, from which we can construct the object by paper crafting.
Here are many other invisible objects
Invisible Object HV
The upper half of the object disappears in a mirror.
Invisible Object VH with Bar
The lower half of the object disappears in a mirror.
Invisible Object VHV
Par of the object is invisible in a direct view, but appears in a mirror.
Invisible Rooster 1
The object does not change in a mirror, but one of the roosters disappear.
Invisible Rooster 2
The object does not change in a mirror, but one of the roosters disappear.
Invisible Object HVH
The object is augmented in a mirror.
Invisible Object HVHV
Part of the object that is not visible in a direct view appears in a mirror.
Invisible Object VHVH
The object changes drastically in a mirror.
Invisible Object HV
The object changes drastically in a mirror.
Exchange of Upper and Lower Chickens
The object is the upper half of the hexagonal prism, but its mirror image is the lower half.
Jumping Rooster
The object is a twelve-plate prism, and it is reflected in a mirror as it is. However the
roster at the bottom jumps up to the top in a mirror. This illusion was selected as one
of the best tens in the
Optical Illusion Contest 2015,
There are three objects of the same shape, but they behave in different ways. The rooster standing at the bottom disappears in the mirror, the upper half disappears in the mirror, and the lower half disappears in the mirror.
Movie of Partly Invisible Objects
The secret of invisible objects is described in a book. (English version is
in preparation.)
